When applying makeup, blending in is crucial. Every aspect of your makeup needs to be blended whether you're applying eye shadow, foundation, blush, concealer, etc to give you an even and uniform look. Every product you put on your face should flow together in unison. You can have on the best products but if you don't take the time to blend in properly, your whole look is ruined. No one should be able to see the line that separates your foundation from your concealer. With that being said 'blending in' in the spiritual world of makeup is quite different. When I looked up the definition of what it means to blend in, the dictionary defines it as "to look or seem the same as surrounding people or things and therefore not be easily noticeable". God did not create us to look like everyone else and fade into the crowd, but to be a light. Blending in isn't in our nature as a Child of God, it's not who we were meant to be because:
1. We are COMMANDED not to conform:
We were created to be like God, made in His image, not the image of the world. God doesn't want us to look and be like everyone else. We were born to stand out and shine bright in this dark world. How can we be a light to the world if we're trying to blend in with the darkness. Ephesians 5:11 says "Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them."
Romans 12:2 "Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect."
2. We are children of the light:
God called us out of darkness into His marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9), not so we can go back to our old lives and blend in with sin. And because we are children of the light we are not to continue living the same way we used to, when we do our light is dimed and we blend in with the rest of the world.
First Thessalonians 5:5 "For you are all children of the light and of the day; we don't belong to darkness and night."
3. We were never created to blend in:
Nowhere in God's Word does it say be like the world or fit in with them. In Genesis 1:27 it says "So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them." We were made in the image of God, and His image looks nothing like the world's nor does it blend in. Are you blending in with the world or are you allowing yourself to be conformed to the image of God? How do you know if you're blending in? Read Matthew 7:15-20
